The search for UK and Ireland's BIGGEST Harry Potter fan begins!
Fifteen years ago today, on 26th June 1997, Bloomsbury published a book about a boy wizard on Bloomsbury's newly launched Children's list called Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. From an idea born on a train journey, to its creation in a small cafe in Edinburgh Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is the book that started a global phenomenon. Rejected by many publishers and with an initial hardback print run of 500 copies, it has now sold nearing 500 million copies worldwide. It is the book which started it all, inspiring a whole generation of readers. Before June 1997, none of us knew about Hogwarts, Quidditch or Voldemort (who was voted as the favourite literary villain in a recent Bloomsbury poll).
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Bloomsbury is launching a nationwide competition in bookshops and libraries to find the UK’s biggest Harry Potter fan. To enter you need to write in no more than 50 words why you love Harry Potter, and post your letter in the special postbox provided in your local bookshop or library. The winner will receive a family holiday to experience the magic and excitement of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter only at Universal Orlando Resort and a leather-bound, signed, dedicated and numbered 15th Anniversary Edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Fourteen lucky runners-up will each receive a leather-bound, signed, dedicated and numbered 15th Anniversary Edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
The most creative and clever answer will win! For full details on the competition, including how to enter, visit the competition web page. For inspiration, take a look at this Harry Potter magic video here.
The competition ends on 31st July 2012 so get your thinking caps (or sorting hats?) on! Good luck!
