British Shakespeare Association Conference

By | February 18, 2012

Next week will be a busy and exciting one in the Continuum London office as we get ready for a number of conferences (specific details on each to follow on our blog!). The British Shakespeare Association Conference (24th – 26th Feb) is one that we are particularly looking forward to as the authors of Shakespeare and I will be presenting a panel on the book and its distinctive themes and arguments.

For those of you who don't know, Shakespeare and I is the latest book in our Shakespeare Now! series – a series of short books that engage imaginatively and provocatively with the possibilities of Shakespeare's plays. Written by William McKenzie and Theodora Papadopoulou, Shakespeare and I is a provocative exploration of how the self is revealed or exposed in the experience of reading, viewing and writing about Shakespeare. A number of the most exciting and authoritative writers on Shakespeare examine and scrutinise their deepest, most personal and intimate responses to Shakespeare’s plays and poems, to ask themselves if and how Shakespeare has made them the person they are. Their responses include autobiographical histories, reflections on their relationship to their professional, institutional or familial roles and meditations on the person-making force of religious or political conviction.

Although this book doesn't publish until the 29th March, we have 10 advance copies that we will be selling at the conference next week – at a 25% discount! We will be sharing our stand with Arden Shakespeare so make sure that you pop over before all copies sell out. We will of course have all of our recent Shakespeare publishing on show, including the critically acclaimed Nine Lives of William Shakespeare, books in our Continuum Renaissance Drama series and our latest Great Shakespearean volumes.
